The Full Moon is a celestial object. It fuctions as a source of power for witches and the core of the mythology surrounding werewolves. When full the moon is upon all various surroundings, all werewolves are at their peak of destruction; meaning their powers and abilities are enhanced, which is deleterious to all vampires, except The Old Ones. The moon in greek mythology was ruled by three goddess, Artemis represented the First Moon, Hecate represents the Dark Side of the Moon and Selene represented the Full Moon as a whole.

Moon[]

The Moon is the only natural satellite of the Earth, and the fifth largest satellite in the Solar System. It is the largest natural satellite of a planet in the Solar System relative to the size of its primary. The Earth–Moon system formed as a result of a giant impact: Theia, a Mars-sized body hitting the newly formed proto-Earth, blasting material into orbit around it, which accreted to form the Moon.

Event[]

Full moon is a lunar phase that occurs when the Moon is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun. Full moons are traditionally associated with temporal insomnia, insanity (hence the terms lunacy and lunatic) and various "magical phenomena" such as lycanthropy.

Function[]

When the Moon is full it serves many fuctions. In relation to Witches it can be used as a source of power. A witch can channel the power radiated by the moon in order to cast powerful spells. In relation to Werewolves it triggers the painful transformation from man to wolf. The moon was also thought by the ancients to bend, push and pull the tide, it was a symbol of life and peace and water, wherease the sun is the oposite and represents fire and chaos and heat.

Moonstone[]

Moonstones were thought to possess power that came from the moon, and as such, was worn as a symbol of peace and life and protection against death. In the series, witches are able to channel the power of both the stones and the moon itself to increes their own powers to a scale that is not their own for as long as the full moon is up.

Greek Mythology[]

In Ancient Greek Myth, several gods and goddesses represented the moon, most notably Selene the Titaness, Artemis the Goddess of the Hunt and Hecate the Triple Goddess of Magic. Each of the three represented a different aspect of the moon. Artemis represented the First Moon, Hecate the Dark Side of the Moon, and Selene the Full True Moon. Selene is among the first in Ancient Greek Myth to inhabit the moon and is an older and primer source and as such she much embodied the biggest brightest aspect of the moon.
